The Drummer Boy Of Shiloh

Ray Bradbury, the writer of the short story, “The Drummer Boy of Shiloh” made the main character brave. Joby, the main character is a 14 year old and plays the drums for the soldiers that will fight in the war. Joby was faithful and courageous throughout the story even when time were difficult.
An example of when Joby was courageous was when the general said “You’ll run them through for me then boy” and then Joby said “Yes, sir.” This shows that Joby was courageous because Joby accepted his request even though he was scared. Joby knew what he was getting into, he knew what the drummer boy’s job was, he also knew that there was a possibility that he could die.
An example of Joby having faith was when Joby knew he was defenseless and vulnerable; he still ended up not listening to his weak side and had faith in himself. That was when he thought to himself “I only got a drum, two sticks to beat it, and no shield.” This showed that Joby didn’t want to go near the battle field because of the danger and he also didn’t want to beat his drums for the soldiers because he didn’t have faith. But in the end Joby had faith in himself and decided that he will beat his drum in the danger.
In conclusion, Joby was courageous because he accepted the general’s offer and Joby was also faithful because he had faith in himself and decided that he will go to the war zone and beat his drum. Some things in life are difficult and terrifying and Joby was able to face something like that. Joby had to do something that could have killed him. I think that since Joby was able to something that frightening I will be able to something not as deadly but still difficult. Joby did the right thing by beating the drum for the soldiers and risking his life which I think made him really brave.

Reading Response on Mockingjay first half

Spoiler Alert

So far the book Mockingjay is great and just like the second hunger games book, Catching Fire. I am in the middle of the book now and can’t stop reading. Once again I think Suzanne Collins did a great job in keeping the reader in the book. This book is splendid and I definitely recommend this book to readers who enjoy a book that’s action packed. So far in this book Katniss and her crew are planning a revolution and Katniss will be the one who leads the revolution.
In Mockingjay Katniss made the districts rebel without knowing and know can’t stop them. Katniss wanted the districts to stop fighting with the capital because innocent people are dying. Katniss knows that this revolution was her fault and she thought it was a bad thing. Every district is fighting with the capital besides district two. The capital always favored district two and always trained them. District two would get more food supplies than the rest of the districts. Right Know I am at the part where Gale thinks of a plan to make district two dislike the capital but I already have way too many spoilers and I don’t want to spoil Gale’s plan because it was good. I think the districts will defeat the capital.
I don’t know how Mockingjay ends but I hope it ends leaving the reader hanging because I plan to read the forth hunger games if it does come out. If there won’t be a forth hunger games I hope this book has an awesome ending. I want the ending to be something that I wouldn’t expect. What I do expect is the capital surrendering to the districts and Peeta becoming normal again, which is being in love with Katniss. I don’t want Mockingjay to end terribly.
In conclusion, Mockingjay is so far a good book and this series is probably my favorite. I want Suzanne Collins to think of a way to make this series longer without ruining it. I also want the movie Mockingjay to come out soon. I know Catching Fire is being made and will be released sometime in 2013.Mockingjay will probably have a good ending.

Reading Response on Catching Fire

       Spoiler Alert

In the book Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins I was truly unable to stop reading because of the ongoing events and action. Suzanne was able to let the reader see every small detail in Katniss’s life. Katniss was in the 74th annual hunger game (which is a cruel game the Capitol made, to show their strength) in the first book of the Hunger Games trilogy. Katniss creates a fire that she cannot control and almost pays for what she has done.
In this book, Katniss has to go into the games two consecutive years in a row because every 25 years a boy and a girl from each district that has already won a hunger games has to go again. Katniss was the only girl that won in her district, so the odds were not in her favor. Haymitch, Katniss’s mentor, was help making a plan on the escape during the hunger games. Katniss ends up breaking the dome that was surrounding the tributes with the help of a genius named Beetee. When the dome shattered Katniss, Beetee and Finnick were picked up by a hover craft and were brought to a district everyone thought got extinct, district 13.
I am planning to read the next book Mocking Jay just because of how interesting this book was. I expect Katniss to rebel and take down the Capitol. I think Katniss will help motivate other districts to fight against the capital. I think the districts will be able to take down the capitol and have their own leaders.
In conclusion, I think that the book Catching Fire was great and I look forward to reading the third book Mocking Jay. Hopefully Katniss does not get captured in the third book and put back into the games.
